star trek: wtf?

Who (or what) is your favorite fictional robot?

Data. Come on. He wasn't my favorite character on Star Trek, but he was still pretty awesome. Of course, Daleks are pretty sweet too.

TARDIS Day

  • Nov. 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 AM
Doctor Who: Going on a trip! [doctor]
Happy TARDIS Day! It's the 45th anniversary of Doctor Who today. So watch some Doctor Who!! I wonder if it'll still be around in 45 years... I'll celebrate the 90th anniversary when I'm 67. Even if the grandkids will make fun of me for watching lame old sci-fi shows. (Also, say TARDIS day like garbage day. It's funnier that way.)

I need book recommendations. I mostly read sci-fi and fantasy, but I'm open to anything good. I want new books! Even though I have four books I'm in the middle of right now (The Time Traveler's Wife, The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep, Founding Brothers, and The Federalist Papers.) I figure any recommendations I get I can put onto my Christmas list! What has everyone been reading lately?

I'm coming home for Thanksgiving Tuesday night, hooray!

Oh yes, something else Doctor Who related! I was out and about yesterday, taking photos for class. Series 4 of Doctor Who came out Tueday, and apparently Best Buy nationwide mismarked the DVDs at $38.99 (BBC dvds, especially Doctor Who, are very expensive. The box sets usually retail around $90, and amazon was the cheapest place I saw the set at $64.) So anyway, I figure I'd pop in to Best Buy, just to take a look. I figure it had already been a few days, they probably would have fixed the tag by now. After much searching, I found the DVDs, with the $38 tag! Of course, it rang up at $70 or whatever, but they had to give it to me at the sticker price! :D That's the last thing I buy before Christmas! (I just couldn't resist!)

Hmm, it's kind of sad that my most recent 15 entries date back to October 27, 2007. Obviously I'm still not updating enough! Once this is posted, it'll be November 3rd. Where I talk about how excited I am for The Golden Compass movie. Oh, how my hopes and dreams were crushed when I actually saw it.

Good summer? Or best summer?

Honestly, I am having the best summer. It's been so good, I just haven't found a chance to write about it! Right now isn't really a good time either, but I'll do a quick recap. I went to Florence for a digital photography class. Amazing. I had a really well paying job lined up when I got back. Awesome. I am now in Los Angeles for SIGGRAPH. Exciting! Especially because this is my first time in California. I got accepted as a student volunteer. Out of 1400 applications, only 400 people got in. So I feel pretty awesome. Even though I'm focusing on motion graphics, 3D still interests me, and this is a really amazing conference and I know I'll learn a lot. Plus, on Thursday... George Lucas will be here to screen the new Star Wars animated movie! Hooray, a day early! I think there are a couple talks on the making-of, so that should be interesting.

Anyway, I'm chilling in the student volunteer office, and my shift is coming up, so ciao for now!

Also, check the flickr to see what I've been up to. :)

Done with the semester!

House: wilson's on speeeeed!
So... I'm done with the semester! Hooray! I've gotten all of my Christmas shopping done, and I have a job for break! (Well, once I pass the background check, haha.) I'll be working at Fort Belvoir at the PX toy department. Whooo. Not the most exciting thing, but money is money. Plus it's only for a month. I'll be going home tomorrow night.

Here are a couple of videos from my final. The first two are the scenes I worked on, and the last one is the final. I worked with my friend Anthony on it. (All the drawings in the sketchbook are his.)

Sorry to those of you that watch my dream journal... :)

Crappy week?

LOST: Buh?
So, sounds like everyone is having a pretty crappy week. Me too, kind of. Nothing horrible or life-threatening. I woke myself up Monday morning with very itchy big toes. Yes. I got these weird bug bite type bumps on the tops of my big toes (and hands) and they still itch! Catastrophe! Yesterday my Xbox almost red-ringed (I think it was overheating, so I moved it and it turned on as normal. Crisis Averted!) I think the saddest news of all was waking up this morning to find OiNK's Pink Palace gone from the internet. (Where will I go to steal music now?)

I suppose it could be a lot worse.

Thesis Production Journal

Blade Runner: Sun
I've got a new journal, [info]0neironaught dedicated for my Thesis research and production. All the info is over there if you're curious. I've decided to call my thesis Oneironaut ("explorer of the dream world") so obviously it's about dreams. :] Mostly it'll be a dream journal, but I'm also going to post inspiration, assignments from my Thesis Research class, and storyboards, once I actually come up with a story. Most of the entries will be public, except for really personal dreams.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations on any books or movies that are dream related, please let me know!

I don't know how many of you keep up with Overclocked Remix, but I know most of you like Final Fantasy VII (and the music, I hope.) Well, OcRemix just released Voices of the Lifestream, a collection of 45 remixs from FFVII. It's awesome, and best of all, it's free.

I love Overclocked Remix, so I have to pimp it out. Plus, who can say no to FFVII music?

Moved in

FLCL: eyebrows!
So, I'm all moved into my apartment here in NYC. (If anyone ever wants to visit, you're always welcome.) I'm pretty much all settled in. I'm lacking in a bedside table, which my dad will be bringing up to me later this month. I also got a new computer! I decided on a 20" iMac, and upgraded the RAM. With my student discount, it was pretty reasonable. (Much cheaper than a MacPro, haha.) I need to go pick up the Adobe Production Suite from the SVA computer store. $1,699 is the retail price but through SVA I can get it for $319. Might as well take advantage of that now. Of course, I could save a lot of money and get it for free... But I just don't feel right pirating it. I don't really have a problem with people downloading Photoshop or whatever if they just using it to learn or mess around with. But since I'll be using it in the future for my paycheck...

Not that I have that much money to spare... because of all these HALO 3 promotions! I can't resist anything with Master Chief on it. I had to get the Game Fuel Mountain Dew (Master Chief juice? o_o;) and the Slurpee cups at 7-11. Burger King is apparently going to start a promotion too. This is forcing me to get fat! I'll have to start working out again soon. As soon as the actual game comes out I won't be doing much else, haha. Yeah, Halo 3 is over hyped. But the Halo series is something that holds a lot of memories for me. (Halo LANs, making fun of bad fanfiction, Halo 2 coming out right after my 18th birthday, skipping school for Halo 2, CUTIE!) I only wish they were releasing Halo 3 on November 8th, for my 21st birthday. Although I don't know if I could make it. September 25 seems so far away!

School starts tomorrow, I need to get some rest. (And get a Master Chief icon.)

I thought it was a nice cartoon...

Pokemon: Wobba Swing!
Holy crap. That's all I can think right now... My mom called me earlier to tell me what was going on. Since then, I've been trying to get in touch with everyone I know at Tech... I'm so scared that I'm going to know someone that was killed... I'm so upset and worried, and the news isn't helping either, constantly reminding me that it's "the deadliest school shooting in US history". But I want to know if anything else happens...

transfer?

  • Dec. 15th, 2006 at 9:42 AM
House: *thinks*
I'm thinking about transferring again. Either to VCU or GMU, I don't know. I really want to be able to get a Masters once I graduate, and at the rate money is disappearing to SVA, that probably won't happen. I'm leaning more towards George Mason, just because then... I could live at home, and save even more money that way. BFAs at Mason don't have to take too many Humanities courses (although more than SVA, obviously.) so I'd probably have to spend my first semester there just taking all those Humanities courses. But I'd be saving money, and learning more! I'd probably end up coming back to SVA for my MFA anyway.

The only thing I'm really worried about is how many credits are going to transfer. I'll be transferring into pretty much the same major, so hopefully alot of my studio credits will transfer, but I'm sure my English ones won't. Bleh.
